Common Names - Monkey's Head, Lion's Mane, Old Man's Beard

Distribution and Natural Habitat - Found throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.  Solitary specimens are often found on dead or dying hardwoods.  Often on logs and stumps in the fall.

Medincal Properties - Contains nerve growth stimulants (NGS) know as erinacines.  This compound stimulates neurons to regrow.  Lion's Mane also contains polysaccarides known to promote immune health.  Like many mushrooms Ergosterols (vit D2) are also present.

Comments & Availability- The long slender spines make this a distinctive and attractive mushroom.  Once reserved for royalty, saute with butter, salt and pepper to bring out its seaffod flavor.  This mushroom is available year round.
